Window work

A job that has been waiting for attention for simply ages is the finishing of the window frames on the inside. There’s 23 sets of frames to sand, fix-up (some minor damage has occurred since they were installed, a bit of water stain etc), varnish and fir the jamb extensions. Which also need a fair bit of sanding and fixing since they somehow got banged around quite a lot.

To help get things moving I had Mikey come in for a few days to do the frames whilst I rebuilt all the jamb extensions. Most of them simply required sanding and some repair of the corner joints. The trusty Festool Rotex sander did its thing as nicely as ever and made that part reasonably easy. Repairing the corners varied from adding a pocket screw here and there all the way to totally dismantling the frame and adding domino joints to locate the sides correctly. Several frames have had to be rebuilt in such a way that they can be assembled in place because they interact with the posts of the timber frame. This seemed like a good idea at the time I designed things but they were supposed to be put in place along with the actual windows. Sadly that didn’t go quite as expected and so I’ve had some fun (for certain interesting and unusual definitions of the word ‘fun’) sorting out the issue.

But it’s all done now and the windows look much better. The final trims still need doing soon.

Oh, and the lumber for the wooden floors arrived last Friday and so the place is cluttered with huge stacks of 6” pine T&G awaiting installing.
