Chimney complete

Drywall isn’t a terribly complicated thing to do - a skilled applier of drywall mud can do an area like this chimney in very short order. Of course, no amount of skill makes the damn stuff dry any faster, so the job takes several days of apply, wait, apply next coat, wait, etc. Add in a bit of sanding, just to make sure there is plenty of dust around since everyone knows that dust equals work, and eventually you can prime (wait) and paint (wait) and finish paint(wait).

Painted, ready for lights.

After cleaning up all the dust, the next step is the hearth and mantel shelves on each side and then finally the tiled surround. Oh,and the missed header? That got fixed up too.

A year ago the kitchen looked like this -

and we had no main heating system, the septic system had just been installed and lighting was by floor standing work lights.

Now it looks like this -
