Catching up

First week - Nov 21-27th
Despite the snow sitting around and making life tricky all week, we managed to get to City Tile to order tiles for the kitchen and bathrooms, and more drywall work got done once it was possible for the drywall guys to get to the house. I got busy with installing some secondary sub-flooring for the tiles, using 5/8” exterior ply, a lot of screws and my trusty Festool tracksaw. Mostly that seemed involve waiting until after the drywall guys had gone home so I didn’t get in their way and as a result I had several very late nights at the house.

Second week - Nov 28- Dec 5
Hooray! The snow mostly melted. Drywall work and sub-flooring continued through the beginning of the week, huge amounts of drywall dust were generated and on Wednesday it was finished. On to cleanup...
Also on Wednesday we had the plumbers on site to have another go at connecting the well. It was hard work and involved 4x4 trucks and rope breaking and lots of swearing and wrangling but finally it was all in place and we have a complete plumbing connection from well to house.

The moment of victory as the pipe and cable are pulled through the under-road conduit.

They also installed the top part of the fireplace chimney with some assistance from a boom/work-platform thing to get up to the roof safely. Mind you, the umbrella that I used to cover the hole in the roof got left lying on the roof, so we have to hope that the wind moves it sometime soon.

Chimney in place. Also, umbrella, if you look carefully.

Too complete the work, we actually got to light the fireplace.

And on top of all that activity, the tiles were delivered by a truck with a nice Hi-ab crane unit. So with a little persuasion the driver agreed to make a short side trip to pick up my two heaviest machines from the rental house and we now have them in the garage at last, awaiting 220v hookup

It might look a mess but it will soon be a working workshop.
