Kitchen lights

We need to get the electricians in for the final hookups soon, so the assorted light fittings for the kitchen and mudroom have to be finished. The prototype unit looked pretty good but stuck out a bit far from the beams and bumped up a bit too enthusiastically, so I made the production pieces slightly differently. We decided to go with an fairly industrial look for the lighting and instead of trying to hide the wiring at the back of the beams we’ll have it go through EMT conduit connecting the light fittings.

Bending pipe

Doing the bending wasn’t too difficult but certainly took a bit of effort at the handle. The biggest trick with any hand bending is getting all the bends in the correct place and orientation. Fortunately EMT pipe is cheap enough to practise.

Lights without the shades but with the conduit

We also need a light above the kitchen table and to keep the theme going I made a simple pendant unit with 4 of the same shades; it is suspended from the ceiling (14ft up! Gulp.) with 3/32” aircraft cable and looks pretty damned sharp
