You can find Qualicum Beach about 40% up Vancouver Island, about 30 miles north of Nanaimo. We live about six miles further up from Qualicum and then about 7 miles inland, up on the foothills of Mt Arrowsmith.
The total population of Vancouver Island is around 720,000 - or about the same as San Jose. The area of V.I. is approximately equivalent to San Luis Obispo up to Ukiah and San Francisco inland to Sacramento. Except for the area around Victoria, traffic is almost non-existent, especially by comparison to the SF bay area.
For the Brits among you, the Island is about half as big as the core part of England - sort of cut off the pointy bit to the west and the far northern bits. Nobody ever takes much notice of them anyway. Traffic is like a quiet country road not on a sunday.
